Afghanistan- Police Chief Admits Existence of Ghost Soldiers in Zabul

(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) QALAT - The police chief of Zabul, Sayed Meraj Sadat, says that at least500 ghost soldiers have been identified in the province in recent monthsas part of a campaign to bring reforms to the structure of Afghan NationalPolice.
Sadat said the process of identifying ghost soldiers is underway.
'We succeeded to recognize those who were not on duty and were appointedbased on relations and paid while they did not exist on duty, Sadat said.
He warned that those who were found guilty will face the music.
'Those who were accused of corruption have left [the province] but thosewho wanted to change, have given a commitment, and this process continues, headded.
Zabul Police Chief said that more than 90 percent of ghost soldiers havebeen identified in the province.
Zabul tribal elders welcomed the move by the police chief.
'Ghost soldiers were one of the main reasons for insecurity in Zabulbecause they were replacing Zabul police and the province was faced with lackof soldiers, said Jalaluddin, a tribal elder.
'The problems of police structure will be resolved by identifying of ghostsoldiers and it will help improve security in Zabul, a tribal elder fromZabul, Ismail Zabuli, said.
Last year, Ghazni Police Chief Farid Mashall reported that up to 1,100ghost soldiers exist in the structure of the National Police in the province.(Tolo news)
