Jordan- FM, Turkish counterpart discuss ties, Mideast issues


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, July 23 (Petra) -- Jordan and Turkey on Tuesday pledged to deepen bilateral ties and coordination on a number of Middle East issues. The foreign ministers of both countries held talks in Amman today focusing on steps needed to expand Turkish-Jordanian cooperation.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu said both countries will sign a host of agreements designed to boost cooperation in the economic domain.
The talks figured high on regional issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, which both ministers emphasized as the Arab and Muslim worlds' top priority. They stressed that the two-state solution is the only to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and bring about regional stability.
On Jerusalem, Safadi and Cavusoglu stressed that preserving the historical and legal status of the holy city is a pan-Muslim priority. In this context, they underlined the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's Muslim and Christian places.
Safadi commended Ankara's supportive stance of Jordan's stance on Jerusalem and the constant Amman-Ankara cooperation to safeguard the city and its holy shrines.
Turning to Syria, both ministers called for a concerned international effort to bring about a political solution to the Syrian crisis in a manner that restores stability and security and allows for the voluntary return of the refugees and displaced population.
Speaking about developments in the Arab Gulf region, Safadi and Cavusoglu called for de-escalation and pursuing dialogue to preserve regional stability and good neighborliness.
They also emphasized the need to maintain coordination and cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
