Sri Lanka- Popular maths teacher arrested over assault on van driver


(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) A popular mathematics teacher has been arrested over an incident where a van driver was assaulted, which went viral on social media.

The Police said that Dinesh Nuwan Amaratunga was arrested and remanded together with seven others until the 29th of July.

The suspects had been arrested over the assault on a van driver in Kalagedihena.

The Police had been requested to investigate the incident where security officers of the maths teacher had assaulted the van driver.

The incident had been captured on video and was circulated on social media.

Parliamentarian Ashu Marasinghe had made a written complaint to the IGP seeking an investigation into the incident.

The Parliamentarian had urged the Police to bring to justice the culprits responsible for the assault on the van driver.

The Police later said that the Colombo Crimes Division had been instructed to investigate the incident.
