Oman- Downpour in interior wilayats winds uproot trees in Buraimi

Rain and thunderstorm swept many areas in the interior wilayats on Friday with Buraimi witnessing strong winds, resulting in uprooting of tress and damaging other properties. According to the Met office, isolated rain and occasional thunderstorms were also expected on Saturday over Al Hajar Mountains and the adjoining wilayats in the afternoon. 

An advisory was also issued by Met office on Saturday for thunderstorm in Ibra, Bahla, Mudhaibi, Bukha, Ibri, Saiq, Sininah, Nizwa, Al Hamra, Izki, Jebel Shams, Buraimi and Yanqul.

On Friday, strong winds in Buraimi uprooted trees and blew away road-side signboards, prompting the municipality to swiftly get into clean-up drive.

In its forecast for July 21, Met office stated, 'Partly cloudy to cloudy skies expected along the coastal areas of Dhofar governorate and adjoining mountains with chances of intermittent drizzle. There will be mainly clear skies over the rest of the sultanate with chances of convective clouds developments and isolated rains and thunderstorms over Al Hajar Mountains and the adjoining wilayats towards afternoon.'

The seas will be rough along Arabian Sea coasts with maximum wave height of 5m, Met office stated, while it will be moderate along the Sea of Oman and Musandam coast.
