Twenty Omanis have embarked on a march from Nizwa to Salalah to mark the 49th Blessed Renaissance Day. The 20-member team aims to promote the tourist sites and spread the culture of sports and healthy living.
The Directorate General of Tourism in Dakhliyah and Bawasil Mountain Adventures team have joined hands to organised this march called 'Hiking for love and peace'.
Speaking to Muscat Daily
, Mohammed Jaber Said al Mujaini, head of the Bawasil Mountain Adventures team, said, 'This march marks the 49th Renaissance Day and promotes tourist sites and khareef season in Dhofar. The 900km march began on July 18 and concludes on July 23.
'It began from Nizwa Fort and will conclude in Salalah. Our group spreads the idea of hiking through social media channels. We receive a lot of interest from young people to participate in such expeditions.'
Yaqoob Khalfan Salem al Musalmy, a participant, said, 'We are divided into four groups. We walk 80km in the morning and 80km in the night. We are promoting tourist sites in wilayats such as Nizwa, Haima, Thumrait, Muqshin and Salalah.
'We are carrying a photograph of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the national flag during the march. The participants are between 20 and 40 years old. We are carrying first-aid too for using in emergency cases.'
On future plans, Mujaini, said, 'We are planning to organise a march that will cover all the wilayats of the sultanate to celebrate the 49th National Day. We hope that many young people will participate in it.'
