Tanzania to kick off SGR operations before year's end

(MENAFN) Tanzania scheduled December to kick off phase one of the standard gauge railway (SGR) operations, which is being established to cover around 200 kilometers.

SGR is being constructed between the business capital Dar es Salaam and Morogoro.

Procurement process for wagons and locomotive engines has already been concluded, announced Minister for Works, Transport and Communication Isack Kamwele.

According to the minister, "we have already set some funds to purchase the engines and we expect by this December the maiden operation of SGR from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro will start."

Kamwele added: "once local contractors do their work they should be paid on time to avoid delaying the SGR project."
