São Paulo – Motor vehicle sales in Brazil climbed 13.45% year-on-year in the first half. According to figures made public by the National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distributors ( Fenabrave ) this Tuesday (2), 1,919,047 units were sold year-to-date through June 2019.
The numbers include automobiles, light commercial vehicles, trucks, buses and motorcycles. June saw 316,475 vehicles sold, up 11.71% from May 2019. Year-on-year, it was a 10% increase.
Fenabrave chairman Alarico Assumpção Júnior imputed negative June results to the fact it had fewer business days than May. 'We had 19 business days in June over 22 in May,' he said.
The positive result in the first half, however, is related to a quieter period. 'Year-to-date growth reached 13.45%, but in the first half last year we were impacted by the truckers' strike,' Fenabrave chairman recalled. The growth was mainly driven by trucks and motorcycles.
