(MENAFN- The Peninsula) QNADoha: The housing sector in Qatar has grown significantly in the last 10 years, which reflects the great economic growth witnessed by the state.

During the inauguration ceremony of the census 2020, the data showed that the number of buildings in Qatar (completed, under construction, and under demolition) rose to 216,740 this year, compared with 148,804 in the 2010 census, an increase of 45.6 percent. Residential buildings were at the top of the list with 80.3 percent, followed by facilities buildings 16 percent, with the rest being distributed to residential and commercial buildings and other buildings.

The number of housing units reached 354,549 units, based on the census this year, compared to 259,067 units in 2010, an increase of 36.9 percent.

Statistics show an increase in the number of active facilities in the country by more than 93 percent over the past ten years, according to the census this year, as the number rose to 64,051 establishments, compared to 33,172 in the 2010 census.

Head of the Department of Censuses, Surveys and Statistical Methods at the authority Nasser Al Mahdi said that the building register has been completed with its full characteristics, based on technical mechanisms, software and techniques that have had a great impact on the construction of a comprehensive and high-quality building register.

In addition, some field work has been done to collect some missing data in the building registers in source areas, he added.

Al Mahdi pointed out during the presentation of the census today that the registers of housing units and establishments were prepared based on the records of the source bodies in addition to the register of housing units in 2015.

He said that the field will be carried out in November to ensure the data accuracy of the main administrative data of the buildings, units and facilities.

Al Mahdi said census 2020 will depend mainly on the latest technologies, systems and manuals adopted internationally, in order to obtain accurate and comprehensive results on the population and their characteristics as well as housing and establishments and extraction of important statistical indicators at different levels.
