Sri Lanka- AG calls for criminal probe on former Defence Secretary
(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Attorney General (AG) has called for a criminal investigation to be launched on former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando over the Easter Sunday attacks.
The AG has advised the acting Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickramaratne to launch the criminal investigation over the failure by Fernando to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks.
Fernando was the Defence Secretary when the deadly attacks were carried out.
Last week, the Attorney General had directed the acting IGP to conduct a probe over lapses on the part of nine Police officers with regards to the Easter Sunday attacks.
The AG had called for criminal investigations to be conducted on the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Colombo), Deputy Inspector General of Police (Western North), Deputy Inspector General of Police (SPR), Senior Superintendent of Police (Negombo), Superintendent of Police (Colombo North), Assistant Superintendent of Police (Negombo III), Assistant Superintendent of Police (Negombo IV), Officer in Charge of the Katana Police Station and Officer in Charge of the Jampettah Police Post.
