King visits Singapore Armed Forces Commandos


(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — his majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday visited the Singapore armed forces Commandos at Pasir Ris Camp, where His Majesty was briefed on the operational roles and capabilities of the Commandos unit.

During the visit, His Majesty attended a tactical exercise simulating an urban operation and a hostage rescue drill inside a residential complex, a Royal Court statement said.

The King was accompanied on the visit by HRH Prince Hashim, His Majesty's chief Royal councillor, and HRH Prince Ghazi, His Majesty's chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy.

Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli, Chief of Army Maj. Gen. Goh Si Hou and a number of senior officers on the Singaporean side were also present.

King Abdullah began on Tuesday a visit to Singapore, during which he is to participate in the International Conference on Cohesive Societies, where His Majesty will deliver the keynote address.

The King's participation in the conference comes at the invitation of the President of Singapore Halimah Yacob, in recognition of His Majesty's efforts to promote dialogue, interfaith harmony and understanding across different cultures around the world, according to the statement.

The conference represents a platform for dialogue on ways to address the challenges widening divides within societies around the world and is slated to be attended by a large number of political, religious and intellectual leaders and representatives of civil society organisations.

During the visit, the King is due to hold meetings with the President of Singapore Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as well as meeting business leaders to discuss means of boosting economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

HRH Prince Feisal was sworn in as Regent, in the presence of Cabinet members.
