UAE- SRTI Park to position Sharjah as innovation, testing, research hub


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Research technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park) said on Monday it is geared up to establish Sharjah as an innovation hub and a world-class research and testing center.

Launching Sharjah's Innovation Economy Report on Monday, SRTI Park outlined the ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation with its international partners and to knowledge transfer with them to enhance the emirate's status as a global capital for scientific research, technology, innovation and knowledge.

A special ceremony was held at Al Jawaher Reception and convention Centre in Sharjah to unveil the report that highlights the next steps to be taken by SRTI Park to support Sharjah's journey towards establishing a knowledge economy and becoming the R & D and innovation hub of the region.

Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTI Park the world is on the threshold of the fourth industrial revolution that has its benefits and requirements. "We must be ready for this change and establish Sharjah as the innovation location and a world-class research and testing center."

Through this report, SRTI Park joins the global standards system for innovative cities.

Al Mahmoudi spoke about the leadership's vision to establish Sharjah as the capital of education, scientific research and innovation in line with of the American University of Sharjah's (AUS) strategy.

Al Mahmoudi said the park, through its relation with the most prestigious universities and international institutions such as Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial College, would create a world class innovative research environment, focusing on: water technology, renewable energy, environment technology, transportation technology, information technology, industrial design and architecture.

Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Executive Chairman of the Department of Government Relations and Andrew Jackson, British Consul General in Dubai participated in a panel discussion with Al Mahmoudi at the event.

Current projects in the park consist of building hydroponic farming lab using solar-evaporated sea water coming directly from the Sharjah coast, pre-fab housing constructed from recycled plastic, and construction of an elevated train pilot track and construction of buildings with 3D printing techniques.

The park has easy access to vital and logistical facilities in the emirate and in the UAE, and the infrastructure meets the requirements of international standards.-
