UN Security Council decries Mali assault on peacekeepers


(MENAFN) UN Security Council members voiced deep denouncement to deadly assaults targeting UN peacekeepers in Mali.

Cars belonging to the Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) were under attack, leaving one dead and a number of others wounded.

In a statement, the Security Council emphasized that its members "condemned in the strongest terms" the attacks which erupted in Timbuktu and Tessalit.

The statement stressed: "the members of the Security Council expressed their concern about the security situation in Mali and the transnational dimension of the terrorist threat in the Sahel region."

It added: "they urged the Malian parties to fully implement the Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation in Mali without further delay."
