Carbohydrates were burned in a gas flare to prevent an explosion at the Tabriz Oil Refinery, located in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province, Shaker Khafaei, head of the Public and International Affairs department of Tabriz Oil Refining Company, told ILNA, Trend reports.

According to Khafaei, oil was burned in safety flair, as pressure increased in one of the refinery's units.

Responding to observations of dark clouds coming from the direction of Tabriz Oil Refinery, Khafaei said that operational units of the refinery resumed operation after major repairs were carried out.

'Factory repairs are carried out once every several years," he said.

The crude oil of the Tabriz Oil Refinery is provided by the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC) and a 16-inch pipeline from the Ahvaz oilfield, located in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan Province.

Tabriz Oil Refinery has 14 processing units and 10 more units for additional services.

The factory produces gasoline, liquid gas, diesel, mazut, white oil, sulfur and bitumen in accordance with Euro 4 standards.
