Moderate earthquake startles southwestern Greece


(MENAFN) The Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens declared that an earthquake of a 4.7 magnitude has rattled southwestern Greece off the island of Zakynthos in the Ionian Sea on Monday.

Greek seismologists confirmed that the quake's epicenter was determined 5 kilometers deep into the sea bed about 19 kilometers off the town of Amaliada in the Peloponnese peninsula.

Earlier the Euro Mediterranean Seismological Center had set a preliminary magnitude of the earthquake at 5.1.

Greek national news agency AMNA confirmed that no victims or huge property losses have been reported by local authorities.
