Qatar- Traffic Directorate organises awareness exhibition to mark Global Road Safety Week

Doha: The General Directorate of Traffic opened at its main headquarters yesterday an awareness exhibition on the occasion of the Global Road Safety Week, marked this year under the theme 'Leadership for Road Safety.

The Ministry of Public Health, Qatar Red Crescent and Hamad Medical Corporation is taking part in the event to highlight their efforts and awareness messages related to road safety.

In a press statement on the occasion, Assistant Director-General of the General Directorate of Traffic Col. Nasser Darman Al Mufqai said that the State of Qatar joins the world to mark this event through the organisation of a traffic exhibition to raise awareness in the society about the dangers of road accidents.

This occasion reminds everyone about the dangers of negligence in traffic safety procedures, the resulting suffering of families and friends, and the significant impact on the State's economic resources due to the large economic cost of treating injuries caused by such accidents, he said.

He noted that the State has paid great attention to providing safety for all road users, highlighting the National Traffic Safety Strategy, in which all governmental and non-governmental sectors have been involved and made efforts to reduce the problem of traffic accidents.

He called on all road users to adhere to the traffic safety rules and light signals, and stressed the need to adhere to legal speed on the roads, not use the phone while driving and fasten the seat belt in order to reduce fatal accidents.
