Cambodia reduces school hours over rising temperatures


(MENAFN) Cambodia has demanded all public schools to cut off one hour off their normal school days due to burning temperatures in the underway dry season.

A directive issued that the regular morning school class from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. will now end half an hour earlier, while the afternoon class, often initiates at 1:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m., will commence 30 minutes later.

Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron confirmed: "During the dry season in 2019, the weather is very hot and temperatures can be higher than 40 degrees Celsius between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.".

As the action took place in order to "prevent heat-related illnesses".
