Belgian students enthralled by Kuwait's global, regional diplomacy


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, April 19 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's diplomatic and humanitarian roles in the region and around the world has been praised by a group of Belgian politics undergraduates.
Twelve members of the Flemish Model United Nations, an inter-student debate and speaking club, made the remarks as they were given a briefing on the matter by Kuwait's Ambassador and chief of mission to Belgium, the EU and NATO.
At a dinner banquet attended by the youngsters at the ambassador's Brussels residence, Jasim Al-Bedaiwi said the event falls in line with embassy efforts to reach out to various communities throughout Belgium, particularly the youth.
The guests asked questions about Kuwait's viewpoints on various global political issues.
The ambassador shed light on the role his country assumes on the global stage.
This includes its international humanitarian and development assistance efforts, which resulted in awards handed to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah from the United Nations and the World Bank, most recently.
Additionally, its role in promoting peace, particularly in regards to the inter-Gulf state regional dispute, Yemen, Syria.
Kuwait's diplomatic relations with the outside world, including its "solid and growing" bond with both the EU and NATO, along with its internal democratic policies were also reviewed.
In separate remarks to KUNA following the encounter, the students expressed admiration and astonishment at the role assumed by women in the Kuwaiti society - with many being involved in the political decision-making process.
"I never knew that before - how women have been able to reach high-level positions in government and in the diplomatic domain," one mentioned.
Others commended Kuwait's generosity on the global stage and its relentless supportive stances in the aid of impoverished nations. (end) nk.sd
