Afghanistan- 9 Hydropower Dams to be Completed Over Next 3 Years
(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KABUL - The Ministry of Water and Energy on Thursday said more than 250 water management projects were executed last solar year and nine hydropower dams would be constructed over the next three years.
As part of the government program to offer accountability to the nation as directed by President Ashraf Ghani, deputy Water and Energy minister Almas Bawar Zakhilwal told a press conference in Kabul that their ministry worked on 24 projects of producing and supplying hydropower last year while the procurement process of another eight projects was nearing completion.
The completion of these projects would directly benefit 110,000 families, said Zakhilwal, who added they completed 251 projects of water management, including construction of dams, canals, rivers' embankment and others.
He said these projects directly provided access to water energy for 147,000 families. He said the procurement process of another 126 projects had been completed and practical work on them would be launched soon.
He said the survey and design of 345 projects had been completed and were now in procurement phases.
The deputy minister said construction work on nine dams was underway and would be completed over the next three years.
In addition, five infrastructure projects were in progress and procedure for surveying another eight dams had been finalized and their procurement process would begin next year. (Pajhwok)
