CONAB expects grain production 3.4% higher in Brazil
Brasília – Brazil's grain production should grow by 3.4% in the 2018/2019 crop over the last one, which means a 7.7 million tons increase. This projection, which forecasts a production of 232.3 million tons, was released this Thursday (11) by the Brazilian National Company of Supply (CONAB, acronym in Portuguese).
Should it be confirmed, this will be the second largest gain production of the historical series. Soy, corn, rice and cotton figure as the main crops produced in the country, representing 94.5% of the harvest. The increase in these crops, except for the rice, should contribute to the 2.1% increase over the last harvest, reaching 63 million hectares.
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE, acronym in Portuguese) has also released its forecast for crops. According to the institute, the production of cereals, legumes and oilseeds should reach the end of 2019 with 230.1 million tons, an 1.6% increase over 2018. Out of the three main grain crops in the country, only the corn production is expected to grow from 2018 to 2019, by 11.9%, reaching 91.04 million tons by the end of the year. This is the third estimate by IBGE, and is 0.6% more optimistic than the last forecast in Frebuary.
CONAB and IBGE presents different data because the first considers the crop-year while the later works with regular years.
