Expanding its portfolio of mid-range smartphones, Huawei launched the P30 Lite in India yesterday.

As a stripped down variant of P30 Pro, the phone comes with a Dewdrop notched display, 32MP selfie camera, triple rear cameras, and mid-level internals.

Naturally, it takes on Samsung's Galaxy A50 which attracts buyers with multiple cameras, new design and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

But, which one is better?


P30 Lite v/s Galaxy A50: At a glance
Design


The Samsung Galaxy A50 features an edge-to-edge display with a U-shaped cut-out, slim bottom bezel, vertically-mounted triple camera setup and a 3D design on the plastic casing.

In comparison, the P30 Lite sports a Dewdrop notched display with a sizeable bottom bezel, an all-glass body, and triple rear cameras and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Winner: Huawei P30 Lite for its premium all-glass built.

Display


The Huawei P30 Lite comes with a 6.15-inch full-HD+(1080 x 2312 pixels) Dewdrop display with a pixel density of 415ppi and a 90% screen-to-body ratio.

The Galaxy A50, on the other hand, comes with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-U display with a full-HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio (~403ppi).

Winner: Tie, considering both displays offer nearly the same resolution.

The Galaxy A50 comes with a triple rear-camera setup featuring a 25MP (f/1.7) main sensor, paired with a 5MP (f/2.2) depth sensor, and another 8MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide angle sensor.

The P30 Lite also offers a triple rear-camera setup but with a 24MP (f/1.8) main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor.

Winner: Galaxy A50 for its marginally better camera optics.

The Galaxy A50 offers a 25MP front camera with an f/2.0 aperture whereas the P30 Lite sports an impressive 32MP (f/2.0) selfie snapper. Winner: P30 Lite for its superior camera.

The Galaxy A50 is backed by a 10nm octa-core Exynos 9610 chipset, coupled with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage (expandable upto 512GB).

In comparison, P30 Lite is powered by a 12nm octa-core Kirin 710 processor, coupled with 4GB/6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable upto 512GB).

Winner: Both chipsets have their pros and cons, but Exynos 9610 has a slight edge.

Both the phones come with a standard set of sensors including an ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and gyroscope.

However, the A50 gets an in-display fingerprint sensor while the P30 Lite offers a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Further, the A50 runs Android Pie-based One UI whereas P30 Lite runs Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0.1.

As far as battery is concerned, P30 Lite houses a 3,340mAh battery with 18W fast charging support whereas the Galaxy A50 packs a 4,000mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging.

The Galaxy A50 is priced at Rs. 19,990 for the 4GB/64GB model and Rs. 22,990 for the 6GB/64GB variant. On the other hand, the Huawei P30 Lite is priced at Rs. 19,990 for the 4GB/128GB variant and Rs. 22,990 for the 6GB/128GB model.


How things stack up!
Our result


Considering their price tags and specifications, the Galaxy A50 and P30 Lite are almost at par with each other.

That said, the Huawei offering has a premium glass body, more built-in storage, and a superior selfie camera while the A50 has a marginally better rear camera, slightly improved processor, a bigger battery, and an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

Winner: Samsung Galaxy A50.
