UN envoy meets with leaders of Greek, Turkish Cypriots to pick up negotiations


(MENAFN) United Nations envoy has held further consultations with the leaders of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities on resuming the caught up peace negotiations for the reunification of Cyprus.

It was the fourth trip to Cyprus by Jane Holl Lute since an international conference in Switzerland on Cyprus concluded vaguely in July 2017.

Lute was on a mission on behalf of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to ease the two leaders to find terms of reference for a resumption of Cyprus negotiations.

Chief Greek Cypriot negotiator who attended the meeting of Lute and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, along with Foreign Minister, said that during a "very good and creative" talk, Anastasiades confirmed his determination to work for a solution as soon as possible.
