Police officers prevent onion smuggling in Iran

Two trucks with 20 tons of smuggled onions were seized in Minab county of ​​Iran's Hormozgan province, Acting Police Chief of Hormozgan province, Colonel Abbasali Bekhdanifard said, Trend reports referring to ISNA.

The police officers seized two suspicious trucks at a checkpoint in Minab county as part of the operation against the smuggling of goods and currency, he added.

Bekhdanifard added that as a result of the operation, 20 tons of smuggled onions were found.

He said that the smuggled onions cost 800 million rials (about $19,000).

As a result, two people were detained, the investigation is underway.

Iran banned the export of potatoes and onions on April 4 to regulate the situation in the domestic market.

The price of one kilogram of onions has recently increased up to 150,000 rials (about $3.33).
