Qatar and Oman sign MoU on National Geographic Information Structures

Doha:The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of national geographic information infrastructures between the two brotherly countries, as part of the 7th Qatar International Agriculture Exhibition and the first Qatar International Environmental Exhibition, currently held at the Doha Exhibition Center.

The agreement was signed for the Qatari side by Eng. Fahad Mohammed Al Qahtani, Assistant Undersecretary for Planning Affairs at the Ministry of Municipalities and Environment, and for the Omani side by Najib bin Yahya Al Balushi, Ambassador of Sultanate of Oman to Qatar.

The MoU reflects the distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries and their desire to enhance and develop cooperation in the field of national geographic information structures based on the principle of mutual interests and in the light of the discussions that took place between the Qatari and Omani sides.

The memorandum encourages cooperation between the sides in several areas, including the establishment of national geographic information infrastructures, practices and expertise in spatial data, geospatial policies and standards, e-transformation projects, e-government with a spatial dimension and the policies and standards of addressing systems and uses of GIS in population censuses and the conclusion of government licensing agreements for Geographical information systems programs, national capacity-building, and mutual training in these areas.

The two sides may, by virtue of the Memorandum of Understanding, add other areas of cooperation through diplomatic channels. The sides will also encourage the exchange of training courses, expert visits and scientific research in such areas of cooperation.
