Kuwait, Tunisia sign MoU to boost judicial cooperation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TUNIS, March 3 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Minister of Justice and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Fahad Al-Afasi and Tunisian Justice Minister Mohammad Jamoussi signed Sunday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance exchange of information and experience in judicial field.

The MoU deals primarily with the administration of justice, and aims to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences between the two countries and to give greater effectiveness to the daily practice of judicial services.

In a statement to KUNA and Kuwait State Television, Al-Afasi said that the MoU was a result of strong ties between the two countries' leaderships and people, stressing that such agreement comes also as a complement to the legal and judicial cooperation agreement in civil and commercial matters and personal code between the two countries.

The Kuwaiti minister added that such agreement would also strengthen the mechanisms and practices of legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries, as well as the exchange of legal and judicial researches and legal documents, information on modern legislation and studies, experiences for resolving disputes through conciliation and mediation.

For his part, the Tunisian minister said "the memorandum will provide an opportunity for both ministries of Justice to enhance the exchange of information and experience, which dates back to previous agreements signed between the two countries all the way to 1977." Jamoussi pointed out that the legal and judicial cooperation agreements concluded between Kuwait and Tunisia cover various criminal, commercial, civil, personal status, arbitration and mediation fields, which "reflects on the depth of relations between Tunisia and Kuwait."
