Qatar- Suicide attack kills 11 in Nigeria
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Eleven people were dead on Saturday after two suicide
bombers and a gunman attacked a mosque in the north-eastern Nigerian
city of Maiduguri, a police official said.
Damian Chukwu, Borno state police commissioner, said in a statement that it is believed the attackers were from the Islamist extremist group Boko Haram. They infiltrated the mosque, in Kushari village on the outskirts of the city, shooting sporadically before the bombers detonated explosives they were wearing. Along with eight victims, all three attackers died. Another 15 sustained injuries.
The incident comes four days after the convoy of the state governor, Kashim Shettima, was attacked by Boko Haram fighters. Three people were confirmed dead in that incident. Boko Haram, which in 2009 launched an insurgency to impose strict Islamic rule in parts of Nigeria, conducts much of its activity in Borno state. Thousands of people have been killed while about 2 million others have been displaced by the insurgency.
