Hoya to set up hard disk drive factory in Laos


(MENAFN) The Japanese optical glass maker Hoya Corporation will invest more than USD300 million to establish a new manufacturing facility in Laos to produce memory disks for hard disk drives.

The company has held an official ceremonial groundbreaking for Hoya Laos Co., Ltd. in the Saysettha Development Zone (SDZ) in Lao capital Vientiane last Friday.

The SDZ is jointly established by Lao and Chinese governments.

Currently, there are a total of 56 firms investing in the SDZ, worth about USD1,000 million, while most of the investors come from China, Japan and Thailand.

The new factory will be built to support the future growth of memory disk, as production in scheduled to start at the beginning of 2020.
