Myanmar authorities confiscate smuggled teak timbers


(MENAFN) Myanmar authorities have captured six tons of illegally harvested teak timbers in Taikkyi, Yangon region, according to the official Global New Light of Myanmar.

The Forest Department confirmed that the six tons of rough-sawn teak timbers, belonging to Myanmar businessmen, were busted on Saturday by a joint force of police and forest
departmental officials when they halted and searched a six-wheeled truck carrying the timber bound for Taikkyi from Tharyawaddy.

However, the driver and the co-driver managed to escape the site.

Police have launched a case against them as a probe was ongoing.
