Afghanistan- 1,000 tons of fish produced every year from Helmand River


(MENAFN- Afghanistan Times) KABUL: As many as 1,000 tons of fish is produced every year from the Helmand River in southern Afghanistan, said officials on Wednesday.

Agriculture Directorate of southern Helmand province said that 1,350 tons of fish meat is produced from the Helmand River.

Agriculture Head Zalmai Alkozai said that some 260 fishing farms in a total of 600 acres of land exist in Helmand, producing 1,350 tons of fish annually.

He said that agriculture directorate will struggle its best to boost up fishing programs and farms in order to lead the province toward self-reliance in the aspect of producing fish meet.

The agriculture department has run different training and technical programs of fishing at the objected to foster fishing culture in the province, he added.

It is pertained to mention that over 2,000 fishing farms are active in the country, which mostly located in Kandahar, Helmand, Urzgan, Laghman, Nangarhar, Balkh and Nimroz provinces.
