Oman- Riyada plans training to prepare SMEs for electric vehicles


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada) is planning to rope in international experts to train Omanis for electric vehicles (EVs) segment as it believes growing popularity of battery-powered vehicles could provide employment and investment opportunities in Oman.

Speaking to media-persons on the sidelines of eMobility Forum Oman, Dr Ahmed Mohsin al Ghassani, chief executive officer of Riyada said they would seek the help of specialists from overseas to provide training to youths, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the EV segment.

On arranging funding for training in EV segment, Ghassani said, 'I think arranging funds for training will not be a problem. With a view to explore opportunities available in EV segment, we are bringing international players to participate in this forum.'

Riyada was one of the key sponsors of the recently held eMobility Forum Oman, a day-long event that witnessed participation from key international players in EV segment along with representatives from public and private sector organisations.

The forum was organised by Global EVRT, a UK-based organisation working towards the acceleration of the adoption of EVs.

Ghassani said, 'SMEs will have many opportunities for investment in the eMobility segment. EVs will need charging stations, so we can prepare some SMEs to be specialised in constructing charging stations. I see this as a very good opportunity for them. Besides charging stations, maintenance of batteries for electric cars, upgrading and repairing of batteries that could be a potential area of interest for SMEs in the sultanate.'
