(MENAFN) On Sunday, Iran's nuclear chief Salehi stated that first steps have been taken for the designing of an advanced version of 20 percent supplemented uranium fuel, which is more effective than the fuel now used in Tehran nuclear reactor.
Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Ali Akbar Salehi, praised the country's development in the nuclear energy sector, adding "we have made so much progress in the field of nuclear knowledge and industry that instead of using reverse engineering, we can now design a new reactor fuel from scratch."
He affirmed Tehran nuclear reactor used to run on an older version of fuel, but the fresh design for the 20 percent fuel will upsurge the reactor's efficiency.
Salehi added that the country is on the edge of designing the new, advanced fuel that can be used in any reactor.
