Jordan- Man in police custody for possessing ancient artifacts

Amman, Jan. 4 (Petra) -- Police in eastern Amman have arrested a man in possession of ancient artifacts and coins believed to be of great archaeological value, a police spokesman said.

"It has been reported that a man in a vehicle in Wadi Al Rimam area and who is in illegal possession of ancient coins and other antiquities", Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said in a statement Friday.

Police received the tip-off after which officers swooped on the car and took the man in custody, who turned out to had antiquities-related criminal record, the statement added.

He said a thorough inspection of the artifacts collected would be performed to determine whether or not the objects have archaeological value.
