Afghanistan: clashes between police, militants kill 40 within 24 hours


(MENAFN) Officials declared that at least 40 people have died in battles between government forces and the Taliban in the restive Afghanistan over the past 24 hours.

provincial Police spokesman Sanaullah Rohani confirmed that in the latest clash, Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in Soch area of Jarm district in the northern Badakhshan province on Wednesday morning, leaving seven security personnel dead and four more wounded.

Rohani added that there have been deaths on the Taliban militants in the gunfight which kept going for a few hours.

Similarly, the Taliban militants targeted security checkpoints in Baghlan-e-Markazi district of the northern Baghlan province late on Tuesday night, claiming five lives, according to a member of provincial council Assadullah Shahbaz.
