MENAFN- Asia Times) A British man has been ordered to pay £127,000 to five Filipino boys he allegedly abused in the Philippines.
Douglas Slade, 77, who once campaigned for child sex to be legalized, was sued by five Filipinos – four young men and a 14-year-old boy – in the UK's High Court. The five Filipinos allege they were abused by Slade during the 10 years he lived in the Philippines, the Independent reported.
Slade lived in the Philippines from 1985 to 2015, when he was deported to the UK to face 13 counts of child abuse and rape involving five British boys. He was jailed for 24 years in 2016 on those charges but was never prosecuted over abuse claims in the Philippines.
Barrister Justin Levinson, who represented the five Filipinos, said the victims suffered injuries as a result of Slade's sexual abuse and were suing Slade for damages. However, Slade denied abusing any of the five Filipinos and said their allegations were fabrications.
The High Court ordered Slade to pay each of the victims compensation ranging from £20,000 to £35,000. Lawyers say it was the first time that foreign nationals have made such a claim against a Briton in a British court for crimes committed overseas.
