(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Mirbat's 1-1 draw with Al Musanna in the second-leg of the 2018-19 His Majesty's Football Championship quarterfinals at the Salalah Youth Complex on Tuesday was enough for the Salalah-based club to advance to the semifinals on a 2-1 aggregate score.
Mirbat held the away-goal advantage going into the second-leg at home after it had edged past Musanna 1-0 in the first-leg at the Seeb Sports Stadium, played on November 6.
Yousuf al Saadi had scored the goal for Mirbat in the first-leg to give it an advantage.
On Tuesday, Mirbat captain Hussain al Hadhri scored a spectacular header in the 60th minute to put his team on course for a semifinal spot.
Al Musanna fought back with an equaliser through Abdulrehman al Mushaifri in the 71st minute but Mirbat held on to emerge victorious.
In the other quarterfinal match, Al Arouba was to take on Majees in a late second-leg game at the Sur Sports Complex on Tuesday with Majees holding a 1-0 first-leg advantage.
On Wednesday, former champions, Seeb and Sur, will lock horns in a mouth-watering clash at the Sur Sports Complex with the teams playing out a 1-1 draw in the first-leg at the Seeb Sports Stadium last month. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 4.35pm.
In the first-leg, Sur rallied from a goal down to score a crucial away goal with minutes left for the final whistle.
And on Wednesday, it will have an edge playing in front of its home fans. A draw will be enough to take the hosts into the semis on the away-goal rule.
Both Seeb and Sur have won the trophy three times each while the other winners still in fray are Al Arouba (four-time winner) and Fanja, which holds the record of nine titles.
Fanja will be involved in another high-voltage clash against Sohar on Wednesday at the ROP Stadium in Muscat. The match kicks off at 7.45pm.
Fanja had edged hosts and last year's runner-up Sohar 3-2 in the first-leg in Sohar.
