DCI Yorktown Home Therapy reception area YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - Dec. 4, 2018 - PRLog -- Dialysis Clinic, Inc. (DCI), is hosting an open house at its new home training facility, located at 2649 Strang Blvd, Ste. 200 on Friday, December 7 from 3-6pm. The general public is invited to tour the facility, meet the friendly staff, and enjoy refreshments.
"We are delighted to open a full scale home training facility in Yorktown to better accommodate dialysis patients. This facility is above the DCI Yorktown Heights in-center hemodialysis unit," said Charlie Coppolo, DCI Area Operations Director.
DCI Yorktown Home Therapy is a 2,000 square foot home training facility. Home hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis (PD) training will be offered in the four training suites.
"Dialysis at home has the potential to improve a patient's quality of life. It makes a work schedule more manageable; it reduces the travel to the clinic from approximately 15 to two visits per month; and it is gentler on the body when conducted overnight for a longer, slower duration," explained Alan Coffino, MD, DCI Yorktown Heights Medical Director. "I'm thrilled to help DCI make home dialysis more accessible in this area."
DCI currently operates three in-center hemodialysis units in Westchester County: Yorktown Heights, Hawthorne, and Elmsford.
"While the home training facility is new, the staff is not. We have an experienced and dedicated team that is eager to provide great care to patients," shared Ellen Jones, DCI Home Program Manager.
The open house is an opportunity for the community to meet the care team. Medical Director, Alan Coffino, MD, will be in attendance. Participants are encouraged to ask questions about kidney disease and DCI's comprehensive care strategy.
According to the latest data available by the United States Renal Data System, the number of people with kidney failure has steadily increased in New York. In 2014 there were 42,910 New Yorkers on dialysis; 2015 saw 44,221; and 2016 realized 45,334. Of the 7,600 new dialysis starts in 2016, only 415 patients were trained on a home therapy: 28 patients started on home hemodialysis and 387 started on peritoneal dialysis (PD). At the same time 6,917 patients began treatment in an in-center hemodialysis center.
"We want to educate people with kidney disease about their options and show them that dialysis at home is accessible, safe, and convenient. Our Yorktown Home Therapy facility was designed with the patient's comfort in mind," Charlie Coppolo, DCI Area Operations Director, said. "I hope the community will join us on Friday to see for themselves how wonderful our staff and new facility are."
