Iraq: seven die in floods

(MENAFN) A provincial Police source declared that over seven people have been killed in a wave of floods of torrential rain that dropped on northern part of Iraq's northern central province of Salahudin.
Mohammed al-Jubouri confirmed that the floods went across several villages in Shirqat area, some 280 km north of Iraqi capital Baghdad, and totally drowned the villages of Khadhraniyah, Horiyah and Jirnaf, claiming seven lives, with women and children among them, as several people remain uncounted for.
Jubouri added that the unexpected torrents left panic among families in the villages and forced them to go up the roofs of their houses, while several more were able to evacuate their residents.
Some of floods swept from the troubled area in the west of the town of Shirqat to the districts located in its lowland areas.
