Iraqi PM says talks with Washington on Iran's sanctions

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- The newly-elected Prime Minister of Iraq Adel Abdulmahdi on Tuesday revealed that there are ongoing negotiations with the US Administration on exempting Baghdad from commitment to sanctions imposed on Iran.
An Iraqi delegation of lawyers specialized in international law and economy are currently conducting wide negotiations with both US and Iranian sides to make Iraq free from being committed to sanctions on Iran, Abdulmahdi told a news conference.
Iraq's vision in this regard stresses that the country is neither part in any sanction system nor in any aggression against any state, he added.
Iraq seeks to protect its interests and puts into consideration the others' interests as well, he noted.
He explained that Iraq's stance towards the sanctions on Iran is similar to the position of the European Union, Russia, China and Japan.
Washington has not excluded Iraq so far from abidance by its sanctions on Tehran. (end) ahh.hm
