Oman- Muscat Gujarati Samaj holds aarti and rangoli competition


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Muscat Gujarati Samaj, popularly known as MGS, the Gujarati Wing of Indian Social Club Oman, recently organised an aarti and rangoli Competition, which witnessed an overwhelming participation of more than 80 entries in both categories.

The month of October marks the start of festive season for Indians, which is preceded by the most auspicious Diwali festival celebrated by all. During Diwali, popularly known as the festival of lights, houses are lit up lights on the exteriors and interiors as well as 'rangolis', a design decoration using vivid natural colours and flowers, are displayed at the doorsteps for welcoming guests, as a sign of. Also, creatively designed aarti thalis are prepared every year for offering prayers to the divine.

Aarti thalis and rangolis are very popular as a part of Indian festive cultural practiced socially everywhere, and MGS transformed this very art of creating aarti thalis and rangolis into an annual competition so as to create festive competitiveness prior to the auspicious period of Diwali. Children as well as adults took active participation in this year's competition which witnessed exemplary creative designs, leaving the audience and the judges awestruck. Creativity flowed in all the rangoli designs which included facial portraits in fine art, picturesque village scenes and portraying strong social causes.

Judges comprised art teachers, noted socialists and well-known art specialists. In the children category, aarti competition winners were Vincy Parmar (first), Naisha Joshi (second) and Nishtha Brahmabhatt (third) whereas for the rangoli competition, the child winners were Rutva Talati (first), Vincy Parmar (second) and Shailee Modi and Shweta Raman (third). In the adult category, aarti competition winners were Pragna Shah(first), Dimple Kanabar (second) and Priyanka Gagwani (third) whereas for the rangoli competition, the adult winners were Minal Bhimani (first), Dipali Mhetre (second) and Dimple Kanabar (third). All participants and audience lauded the efforts and showered praise on Muscat Gujarati Samaj which has been tirelessly working towards providing excellent cultural and social events for the Indian diaspora living in Oman.

Muscat Gujarati Samaj, one of the most active wings of the Indian Social Club Oman is well known for the numerous activities it organises on the social, cultural, entertainment and the MGS rangoli and aarti competition was yet another attempt towards keeping the people of Gujarati culturally rooted. The event was sponsored by Ramniklal B Kothari and the co-sponsors were Malabar Gold, Majan Food, Flamingo Tours & Travels, New India Assurance and Nabil Biscuits.

Muscat Gujarati Samaj, famously known as MGS, is the Gujarati Wing of the Indian Social Club Oman and is in its 43rd year of functioning now. MGS is known for being one of the most active linguistic wing and has contributed immensely towards social and cultural causes, providing wholesome family entertainment for the entire Gujarati diaspora in Oman. Kala Ved, Paru Negandhi, Kajal Ramaiya and Snehal Jani worked very hard to make this event a grand success. The judges were Viji Sattigarh and Deepali Gheewala. Prizes were distributed by GM, Dahyabhai Chauhan of R B Kothary.
