Thundery rain along with heavy wind and lightning lashes Qatar

Doha: The rains have unleashed its full force and fury today as most parts of the country are witnessing heavy rain accompanied with thunder and lightning.

The visibility has been hit badly in many places and motorists are urged to be cautious.

'I am turning back from the Corniche as driving has become very difficult due to the heavy rain and wind. Even the buildings on the Corniche are not seen clearly due to the rain and heavy wind, one of our colleagues on his way to West Bay said.

A reader called and informed us that the wind and rain is very heavy near the Qatar National Library area and its near impossible to drive.

'Cloudy skies with scattered thunderstorms especially in Doha and eastern and northern coasts accompanied with strong wind at times. Please be careful and avoid any marine activities,Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) tweeted.

Waterlogging was reported from a few areas, which we were not able to confirm.

As it is a Saturday, this is the best time to enjoy the rain at home over a warm cup of tea and some crispy snacks. Don't forget to keep the windows or balcony door open.

Earlier in the day, QMD tweeted that 'Wind speeds exceed 25 knots in the northern regions of the country, and visibility is less than 2 km due to the downward wind accompanying the thunderstorm, and according to the latest update of the radar (medium-heavy) rains will continue in the city.

They also urged everyone to avoid marine activities.

'Due to unstable weather conditions expected till Monday, sea riders are advised to take caution especially during afternoon and evening time where thunderstorms are likely to form, QMD said.
