(MENAFN- Asia Times) A British man serving a life sentence for child abuse is being sued by five Filipinos who alleged he abused them.
Douglas Slade was arrested in Angeles City in the Philippines in 2015 and deported to the United Kingdom, where he stood trial for child abuse committed in the UK between 1965 and 1980, Philippine Lifestyle News reported.
The five Filipinos – four young men and a 14-year-old boy – allege that they were abused by Slade during 10 years that he lived in the Philippines.
The alleged "victims" are suing Slade for damages in the High Court of Justice in England.
A judge is analyzing evidence in London for a trial reportedly expected to end later this week. Lawyers say it is the first time that foreign nationals have made such a claim against a Briton in a British court for crimes committed overseas.
Barrister Justin Levinson, who is representing the five Filipinos, told Judge Gargan on Tuesday that one of his clients was now 20, three were in their late teens and one was 14.
Levinson said the victims suffered injuries as a result of Slade's sexual abuse and each are hoping to win between £15,000 and £30,000 (US$19,833 to $39,666).
Slade denies abusing any of the five Filipinos and says that their allegations are fabrications.
