
Oman- More than 500 labour law violators arrested in Sept
A report by the Joint Labour Inspection Team under MoM in North Batinah stated that 282 expatriate workers were arrested while 239 were arrested in Dhahirah during the same month.
Those arrested in North Batinah included workers from the commercial (190) and agricultural sectors (45), and individual workers (37). Investigations showed that 190 were absconding workers, while 85 had been let off by their sponsors. During the same period, 470 violators were deported.The Directorate General of Manpower in North Batinah and its inspection team seek to intensify its efforts to curb labour law violations at work sites and places where the expatriate labour force gathers.
A report by the Joint Labour Inspection Team under MoM in the Governorate of Dhahirah shows that 239 expatriate workers were arrested in September.A total of 64 facilities were visited and their compliance with the Omani Labour Law and its regulations reviewed.
During the inspection visits, employees of the private sector were made aware of the laws, regulations and ministerial decisions.In September, the Labour Welfare Department registered 97 absconding cases.
