Three Vietnamese nationals – two men and one woman – were charged with possession and trafficking of almost 500 grams of methamphetamine in Cambodia on Tuesday.
The two men were identified as Chang Wang Tao, a carpenter, and Sok Ly, a mechanic, while the woman was Dam Kimdep, a massage spa owner. All of them are 50 years old. Lieutenant-Colonel Bour Sothy, the deputy provincial police chief of Sihanoukville, identified the three defendants at the provincial court on Tuesday, the Khmer Times reported.

Bour Sothy said the trio had coordinated with a drug syndicate to sell narcotics to tourists, specifically Vietnamese and Chinese. Chang was arrested around 8:30am on September 30 after he sold drugs to an undercover cop at his own house in a local commune.
Seven packages of crystal meth and a mobile phone were confiscated from Chang, who named Sok Ly as an accomplice, who was arrested several hours later. Another package of crystal meth and a mobile phone were also found.
Sok Ly gave the police intel on Dam Kimdep, who was arrested at her massage establishment in the Buon Commune. The same contraband was taken from her as well.
Since the abolition of the death penalty in Cambodia, the prescribed punishments for drug crimes range from five years to life imprisonment.
