DOHA: The National Human Rights Action Plan Committee held its second consultative meeting with entities involved with humanitarian work and education and media sectors.

The meeting was organised within the framework of the consultative process accompanying the preparation of the plan, as confirmed by the guidelines and best practices of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNCHR), said a release.

The preparation process should be accompanied by consultation with stakeholders in the promotion and protection of human rights.

The meeting was opened by Acting Director of Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Faisal Abdullah Al Hanzab.

The Rapporteur of the committee Fatma Al Kuwari, who is third secretary at Human Rights Department at the ministry touched on forming the committee and its mission. The representatives of the participating entities then presented their suggestions and recommendations.

It should be noted that the formation of the committee was a decision of the Cabinet at its ninth ordinary meeting of 2017 under the chairmanship of HE Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, and the membership of various entities in the state.

The formation of the committee comes within the framework of the State's efforts to establish a state of law and institutions, the subject of which is the promotion and protection of human rights as a strategic option. This is emphasized in Qatar National Vision 2030 in the first national development strategy (2011-2016) and 2018-2022.
