UN: 134 civilians killed in Syria past three days
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, Aug 13 (KUNA) -- The UN said Monday ongoing violence in northwest of Syria killed at least 134 civilians over the past three days, including many children in Idlib, Hama and Aleppo.
Last night witnessed the murder of 59 civilians including 17 children when a depot of arms and ammunition was detonated in northern Idlib, UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq told a daily press briefing.
Haq said UNICEF reported that 28 children were killed in Idleb and Aleppo over the past 36 hours, while three UNICEF health facilities were attacked and were out of service.
He added educational authorities suspended education in Idleb for three days because of ongoing hostilities.
All parties should protect civilians and civilian facilities, as well as allowing unfettered access to aid workers, said Haq.
On Afghanistan, Haq said preparations for general elections were heading in the right direction. (end) asf.bs
