Libya opposes EU decision to establish migrant centres
(MENAFN) Libya's Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj has voiced opposition to a decision the EU made to establish migrant centres in his country, aiming to prevent unsafe journeys to Europe.
"We are absolutely opposed to Europe officially wanting us to accommodate illegal immigrants the EU does not want to take in," the Libyan prime minister to German newspaper Bild.
The "is a blow to Italy, which is regarded as being close to his [Al-Sarraj] Tripoli administration," the Guardians reported.
It added that Italy stood against reception and identification centres in Libya to find a settlement on divisions among European governments.
Al-Sarraj also said "we save hundreds of people off the coast of Libya every day - our ships are constantly on the move."
