Oman- Vehicle entry fee announced for Ubar Archaeological Site


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Diwan of Royal Court has recently issued a new decision introducing vehicle entry fee to the Ubar Archaeological Site in the Governorate of Dhofar.

This is the first time that an entry fee to the site has been introduced.

This comes as per the Ministerial Decision 8/2018. The fees should be paid in cash at the time of entry.

Meanwhile, the number of visitors to the site in June this year stood at 104, according

to statistics by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

Ubar is one of the most important heritage sites in Dhofar and was listed on Unesco's World Cultural and Natural Heritage list in 2000, under the name of Land of Frankincense Sites.

The fees are as follows:

• RO2 for 4WD and small vehicles

• RO20 for small-sized buses

• RO50 for medium-sized buses

• RO100 for large-sized buses

4,669 visit archaeological sites in June

Salalah - The number of visitors to Al Baleed and Samahram archaeological sites during June stood at 4,669, according to statistics from the Department of Frankincense Land Sites at His Majesty the Sultan's Advisor's Office for Cultural Affairs.

Al Baleed Archaeological Park and Museum of the Frankincense Land received 3,051 visitors and Samahram archaeological site received 1,333 visitors. Wadi Dokka received 181 visitors and Ubar Archaeological Site received 104 visitors.

Al Baleed Archaeological Park, Samahram, 'Shasir Area' and Wadi Dokka are registered sites on the World Heritage List under the name 'Land of Frankincense' sites.

His Majesty the Sultan's Advisor's Office for Cultural Affairs is developing several archaeological sites and providing them with utilities to serve the goals of cultural and archaeological tourism in Dhofar.
