Israeli settlers storm Al Aqsa Mosque yards under police protection

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Ramallah, July 1 (Petra) -- Groups of Israeli extremist settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Haram Al Sharif yards in occupied Jerusalem, a Palestinian source said Sunday.

The Director General of the Islamic Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Affairs, Sheikh Azzam Al-Khatib, said the settlers entered the compound through the Bab Al Magharbeh Gate under heavy protection by Israeli police and special forces.

Israeli police maintained restrictions on worshippers entering the mosque and forced them to leave their IDs at the gates. They also prevented dozens of men and women from entering the mosque for a long period of time, he added.

Al Khatib said that around 76 settlers broke into the mosque in separate groups and made provocative tours.
