(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Silatech partook in a high-level panel of leading global policy-makers and practitioners, as well as civil society, private sector, and youth voices, to discuss best practices and initiatives that empower young women and men to fulfil their role as protagonists in preventing andcountering violent extremism.

The event theme, 'Youth as Protagonists in Preventing Violent Extremism and organised by the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the UN and the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund, took place on June 28 during the UN's Counter-Terrorism Week in New York City.
The panel offered various perspectives on how young people understand and work to prevent violent extremism and radicalisation that lead to terrorism, through activities based oncommunity and social cohesion.
Sabah al-Haidoos, chief executive officer, presented Silatech's innovative approach to combating extremism and terrorism by empowering young people and enabling them with jobs to lead decent lives, as well as the organisation's achievements in fragile communities and conflict-affected areas.
'We must work to protect youth from marginalisation, poverty and unemployment so they don't fall a prey to violent extremism and terrorism. Therefore, we must first ask ourselves how we can expect young people lacking peace, security and decent work to be positive and active participants in their communities, said al-Haidoos.
'We advocate for youth and believe in their positive influence in the development of societies and the spread of peace, and this is what we do at Silatech, an international organisation that works to empower youth and positively engage them in their societies, she added.
