Saudi Arabia's Ahsa, Oman's Qalhat join UNESCO Heritage list

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MANAMA, June 29 (KUNA) -- The 42nd World Heritage Committee decided on Friday to add Saudi Arabia's Ahsa Oasis and Oman's Qalhat City to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The committee said in a press statement that Ahsa, which is considered the largest palm tree oasis in the world, was included in the UNESCO list.
The oasis contains several monuments and more than 1.5 million palm trees. It becomes the fifth sites to feature on the world heritage list.
The committee also agreed on adding Qalhat which is the ancient city in Oman to the UNESCO list.
The committee will consider the nominations of 28 new sites to include them in the UNESCO World Heritage list and the preservation of 157 sites put previously in the list. (end) hmd.hm
