Oman- SCP discusses report on effects of recent climatic conditions


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Supreme Council for Planning (SCP) held its second meeting of the year on Monday under H E Dr Ali bin Masoud bin Ali al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry and deputy chairman of the council.

The council discussed the report of the expert committee appointed by the General Secretariat of the council to evaluate the effects of the recent climatic conditions and the damage to the infrastructure in Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates.

The council thanked the concerned government authorities (civil and military) and community participation, which contributed to alleviating the effects of the cyclone.

The council stressed the need for urgent restoration of basic services and also highlighted the commitment to the National Strategy for Urban Development.

The council also discussed the performance of the Omani economy and its growth compared to 2015 and 2016 due to improvement in international oil prices.

The growth is also due to the performance of non-oil sectors by about three per cent as a result of economic diversification policies.

The council also discussed the detailed study of the Special Economic Zone project in the Governorate of Dhahirah in addition to discussing a number of other topics.
